Clayton Rare Coins & Jewelry Gallery is a family owned and operated business staffed primarily by Mark and Gloria Reid with the assistance of their children, Jenny, Nelly, Dior, Harrison and Jennifer. That's right! We have two Jenny's!
Mark started under the business name of The Time Machine in 1973, after collecting for about 6 years in Northern California. Mark initially operated on a part-time basis while he progressed through his primary career in education. In those early years, Mark sold primarily U.S. coins, medals and tokens but gradually focused on world and ancient coins until he built a substantial collector following and inventory.
Upon retirement from education in the mid-90's, Mark changed his focus again to concentrate on ancient coins and antiquities. Because of his background in educational television and technology, Mark made a relatively smooth transition into the world of the Internet by being the first ancient coin business to offer coins through Numismatists.com. When Numismatists.com discontinued operations, Mark shifted to Internet sales through eBay.com and a concept developed by a friend Joel Anderson called Flash Lists. Flash Lists used e-mail to send descriptive lists and associated images to a select group of collectors. Collectors receiving the list are given a brief period of time to respond via e-mail to the list – thus a “Flash” list.
Mark and Gloria became partners in marriage and the business in the 2003. In addition to being the love of his life, Gloria now primarily operates The Time Machine's eBay.com site, timemachine314. It provides collectors with a wide selection of reasonably-priced, authentic antiquities on a 7-day-a-week basis. Also, Gloria often accompanies Mark to coin shows throughout the United States and Europe.
